THE WEST

THIS MARKING PERIOD IN MRS. GARBER CLASS WE DISCUSSED WAS ABOUT THE WEST. IN THE WEST THERE WAS FARMING, RANCHING, AND MINING. DID YOU KNOW THERE WAS UNPREDICTABILITY OF RAINFALL OF THE PLAIN? IT HAD LARER FARMS THAN MANY OTHERS. THEY ALSO HAD MORE EFFICIENT PLOWS, GAIN SPREADERS, STEAM POWERED THRESHERS, AND COMHUSKERS AND COMBINDERS.

NOW THE DEPARTMENT OF ARGRICULTURE WAS ABOUT CROP ROTATION, HYBRIDIZATION AND PRESERVATION OF WATER AND THE TOPSOIL. IN THE WEST THERE WERE ALSO FARMS CALLED BONANZA FARMS. THOSE FARMS WERE VERY HUGE THAT WAS RAN BY BIG BUSINESS AND THEY ARE ALSO OPERARED BY PROFESSIONAL MANGERS. THE FARMERS ARE SPECIALIZE IN CASH CROPS . THAT WAS AMAZING BECAUSE IN THE WEST MANY PEOPLE WERE TO THEIR SELF. IT WAS ONLY ABOUT THEIR BUSINESS AND CROPS.

IN THE WEST THEY HAD IMPACT OF MACHINERY THAT WAS DEBT AND SPECIALIZATION.

NOW TO RANCHING AND MINING WAS VERY IMPORTANT IN THE WEST. IN 1849 THE CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH WAS STARTED AND THE REALITIES OF MINING IN THE WEST. THERE WAS PIKE PEAK'S, AND COMSTOCK LODE. THERE MULTIETHNIC MINING COMMUNITIES WERE FULL OF ALL COLORS. FOR EXAMPLE, BLACKS, ASIANS, AND WOMEN. THEYV HAD LARGE ROLES OF CORPORATIONS.

CATTLE RANCHING HAD ANIMALS AND OTHER TYPE OF THINGS. THERE WAS DESTRUCTION OF BUFFALO AND REMOVAL OF THE NATIVE AMERICANS. THEY ALSO INDUSTRALIZE THEIR RANCHING AREAS BECAUSE OF LONG DRIVES, RAILROADS, AND BARBED WIRE. THE RAILROADS AND LONG DRIVES WERE FOR THE TRANSPORTION. THEY ALSO USED THE BIG HORSES. UP UNTIL THIS DAY YOU WILL SEE STATE TROOPERS ON THE BIG HORSES BUT ONLY WHEN ITS NICE OUTSIDE. BUT THE BARBED WIRE IS TO PROTECT THEIR CROPS, CATTLES, AND TO KEEP THE THEIVES OUT.

BUT PEOPLE IN THE WEST DIDN'T RELLY STRUGGLE AT ALL. IF YOU ASK ME I THINK THEY DID GOOD . ALL THEY NEEDED WAS THEIR FARMS, RANCH, AND MINING. DO YOU PEOPLE AGREE WITH ME, LEAVE ME A COMMENT SO YOU CAN COMPARE MY OPINION WITH YOURS.

Wow. Im the first one to comment?? Im touched... Anyway, about your blog, its not bad. Not bad at all except for some grammer error and stuffs. Honestly? I sort of agree with you because there were only few farmers that were able to keep their lands after 5 years while alot of them gave theirs up. It occured because sometimes within 5 years, the crops weren't growing well, and farmers couldn't sell more so they weren't able to pay off their debts and mortages. Thus the lands can't be thiers. And the ranchers were suffering too. They had to herd the cattles and walk with them for days and days to get to the railroad station for the cattle to be shipped out. Mining factories had some problems as well. There weren't any silver left so alot of them left to find better lands and jobs. However, there was a bright side to it which is technology, technology and technology! Technological improvements in farm machinary reduce time and effort for farmers and ranchers too for the beef industry. Technology made everythings easier in the west or in fact made the world go around!

Killa bay Bay. Your blog was very good. It held a lot of information in it. I like how u talk about the different techniques farmes used wen it came to farming. I never really knew what cattle ranching was until u explained it. Thanks. But yeah well done!

Good job on your blog. I could see how farmers were both happy and frustrated by the new industrialized equipment they could use. They were happy from the fact that they didn’t have to do so much work, and keep revenue by getting rid of manual labor. They were frustrated from the fact that such equipment was so expensive, and weather was still harsh.

hey killa... I liked how you included diffrent types of ranching and what they included. Also how you showed the diffrences between ranching and minning. Because back then those were the two ways of living, so i think its importnant people know what they were.

This was a very good blog about the farming and ranching that occurred in the west. I learned that the California Gold Rush started in 1849. I believe farmers had an easier time than ranchers. In the West, Farmers could grow massive amount of crops at a faster time but ranchers could grow massive amount of meat but a slower rate. This is one of the reasons why I believe farmers, had an easier time than the ranchers.

Wow! I didnt know that there were multi ethnic groups in the mining communities. I agree on how the buffaloes played a big role in an huge population decrease in Native Americans.

hey nice blog i really liked how you explained the events that happen during western migration. i do agree with oyu that farmers couldnt last during the five years they had to do in order to keep the land they wanted. and so they kept grewing crops and prices went down

I like how you mentioned that each farm is mainly to themselves. I agree because it was obvious that they were really focused on getting their crops grown and getting their profit. The main reason I think for moving west was to get rich quick. Some were lucky some not so much. The gold rush was also a way that they thought they could get rich quick. Very nice blog and great use of vocab.

nice blog :)
the new farming techniques and equiptment farmers picked up in the west were a good and a bad thing. they did make production go sky-high, but then the demand and the price went down, so they were basically in the same debt. they also had to pay back the gov. for all of the money they took out to buy their new fancy equipment

This was a good explanation of the stuggles farmers faced, and the things they had to do to make a living off of it. New technology allowed them to stand a chance, and the way they joined together allowed them to make a decent life for themselves

I thought your blog was very informative. You talked about a couple different things that others haven't mentioned in their blogs. One thing i like about yours is how u told about agricultural side of things in depth. I also thought that the way you wrote your blog in a informative way was very good. Great Blog!!!
